Lyrics: Constant Communion (The Water, the Bread, and the Wine)

You put in our hearts a desire
For constant communion,
You’ve given us a love
For living our lives before you.
Feeding on your every word,
We are walking in the truth we have heard,
Partaking of glory
Revealed to the chosen few.

Before we met you face-to-face
And saw you in splendor,
You prepared us a resting place
In your presence to stay,
A refuge and home to abide,
And a sanctuary where we can hide,
Where all of our shadows,
Our sorrows and sighs flee away.

You opened the way to life
Through constant communion,
To fullness of joy
Through abiding in the vine,
To feast on the finest of fine,
You have given your people a sign:
Your Body and Blood,
The Water, the Bread, and the Wine.

You gave us a new heart,
A new mind, a new understanding,
In the meaning of
The two sides of the cross–

The front side, where many have been,
That deals with forgiveness of sin,
The stigma of shame,
Of pain, of grief, and of loss.

But on the back side of the cross
Are dimensions of grandeur,
Where righteousness, power,
Love, and victory lie,
You captured our captivity,
And setting the prisoners free,
You gave to us spiritual gifts
When you ascended on high.

You opened the way to life
Through constant communion,
To fullness of joy
Through abiding in the vine,
To feast on the finest of fine,
You have given your people a sign:
Your Body and Blood,
The Water, the Bread, and the Wine.

You opened the way to life
Through constant communion,
To fullness of joy
Through abiding in the vine,
We’re feasting on the finest of fine,
And you’ve given your people a sign:
Your Body and Blood,
The Water, the Bread, and the Wine.
