Lyrics: A Kingdom of Your Own

In the beginning you created
And made the heavens and the earth,
Out of the void formless and lifeless,
You breathed and spoke it into birth,
Fashioned a man in your own likeness,
And, flesh of flesh and bone of bone,
Formed woman with the man in union,
Sharing a kingdom of your own.

The man and woman in the garden,
Made in the image of the Three,
Lived in contentment with dominion
Over the land, the air, the sea,
But as the serpentine deceiver,
Their happy hearts fell like a stone,
They lost their innocence forever,
They lost the kingdom of your own.

Chorus: All things created were created,
Made by and for the risen Christ,
And through his suffering obedience,
By means of what he sacrificed:
His life for our own life eternal,
And for our sin he did atone,
To lift us up again in glory,
Into the kingdom of his own.

Even before the world’s foundation,
You planned to do what must be done:
Someday to raise your fallen children,
That their redemption might be won,
And Second Person of the Godhead,
From everlasting you had known,
The cost to rescue your creation,
And save the kingdom of your own.

You laid aside your sovereign power,
Your royal scepter and your crown,
You took the form of human servant—
In love—to lay your body down,
Descending deep into the deepest,
And re-ascending to the throne,
You, reigning once again in triumph,
Re-claimed the kingdom of your own.

Chorus: All things created were created,
Made by and for the risen Christ,
And through his suffering obedience,
By means of what he sacrificed:
His life for our own life eternal,
And for our sin he did atone,
To lift us up again in glory,
Into the kingdom of his own.
