Lyrics: Cain And Abel |
God said to Abel,
“It would be nice
If you would offer me a proper sacrifice,
That to all people
It could be shown
That your life does not belong to you alone.”
“Although I formed you
Out of the mud,
Even so, the life of flesh is in the blood,
Over creation,
I am above,
Yet I have loved you with an everlasting love.”
Then Abel said to God the King:
“I will not offer anything
That does not cost me
All that I am,
And without money, without price,
I will present this sacrifice–
His life for my life–
This spotless Lamb.”
You found the way–
That the better sacrifice is to obey,
And I will tell you,
Because you tried
To please your God and not yourself, I’m satisfied.”
God said to Cain,
“It would be nice
If you would offer me a proper sacrifice,
That to all people
It could be shown
That your life does not belong to you alone.”

“Although I formed you
Out of the mud,
Even so, the life of flesh is in the blood,
Over creation,
I am above,
Yet I have loved you with an everlasting love.”
And then said Cain to God the King,
“I will not offer anything
That does not come from
The works of my own hand,
But when I’m bringing to the table
What I think is more than Abel,
You reject it–
And I don’t understand.”
The Lord said, “Cain,
Why are you mad?
Because I did not want the best of what you had?
Still I will tell you,
When you have tried,
To please your God and not yourself, I’m satisfied.”
“You should have said to God the King,
I will not offer anything
That does not cost me
All that I am,
And without money, without price,
I will present this sacrifice–
His life for my life–
This spotless Lamb.”
“And I will be happy,
When on that day,
You find the better sacrifice is to obey,
And I will tell you,
Because you tried
To please your God and not yourself, I’m satisfied.” |
